ways to volunteer
Are you interested in getting involved with our dinner parties? Here is a list of ways you can volunteer!
Note: we require that everyone serving signs our waiver and photo release (in person at the sign in table). Additionally, because we are an organization that focuses on recovery from substance use, we require that those serving have a minimum of 6 months sober prior to volunteering. Please speak to someone on We See You’s Executive Team if you have any questions about this policy specifically.
On Tuesdays
-
This is a great way to be involved without interacting with guests, but in a vital back-end role. You must be able to lift tables and/or chairs.
We couldn’t have the night without the set-up crew! This job requires the set-up of 20-22 tables, and around 150 chairs. You will not be doing this alone, don’t worry!
-Arrive at 3:00PM- -
SORTING
This is a great way to be involved without interacting with guests, but in a vital back-end role.Throughout the week we get clothing donations that need to be sorted on Tuesdays.
-Arrive around 3:30PM-PERSONAL SHOPPING
This is great for volunteers who want to be out interacting with guests. You must be able to write down their needs and deliver them with a smile. We want to give our guests the Nordstrom experience. Each Personal Shopping team is assigned a table. Using the clipboard you are given, simply go to each person at your assigned table with a smile and ask them what their clothing needs are. You will go to our clothing closet and check through all of the labeled bins to see if we have all items on their list. If we have the items in our “Blessingdale’s” closet, we will happily give it to our guests!
Some of the guests are picky, please make sure you are always kind and gracious to them.
-Arrive around 4:20PM- -
COOKING
This is an easy way to be involved, especially if you can’t be there on a Tuesday night. How it works:
Our passion is to provide home-cooked meals for our guests. We do not have a kitchen of our own, so we rely on volunteers each week.We have a monthly menu available, and provide the main ingredients for you to cook. You cook the meal and bring it hot on Tuesday afternoon.
Click here for the current monthly menu, and to sign up to cook a meal.
DESSERT PLATES
This is a great way to be involved without interacting with guests, but in a vital back-end role.
We receive donations from bakeries and individuals to create lavish dessert plates for our guests.
This job is two-fold. One job is assembling the dessert plates (cutting cakes/pies, sorting through the desserts), and the second job is after our guests finish dinner, to push a dessert cart through our dinner party and let our guests choose which dessert they want (think: fancy restaurant).-Arrive at 3:00PM-
FOOD LINE
This is a great way to be involved without interacting with guests, but in a vital back-end role.
We have an assembly line to put together the perfect dinner plate. We pile each plate high with home-cooked food.
-Arrive at 4:30PM-
SERVERSThis is great for volunteers who want to be out interacting with guests. You must be able to smile and serve plates of food.
Each table is numbered and in sections, and you will be in charge of a section for serving. You will be handed a plate from the Food Line and you will deliver it to your section’s guests with a smile and kind word.
-Arrive at 4:30PM-
DESSERT CART
This is great for volunteers who want to be out interacting with guests. You must be able to smile, push a cart and serve plates to guests.
After dinner is served, you will walk around with a cart filled with lavish dessert plates. Each plate is piled high with delicious desserts and each guest has a preference. You will hand them their chosen plate, and if they are asking for something different, you will happily go into the food room to see if we have it.-Arrive at 4:30PM-

This is a great way to be involved with minimal guest interaction, but in a vital back-end role.
This is the most overlooked but important job.
This job includes wiping down tables, picking up trash, emptying trashes, putting tables and chairs away, sweeping, putting away the merch display, helping put away the clothing closet…basically anything to leave the church better than when we arrived.-Arrive at 6:30pm-

We ask that you would "adopt" one of our guests and include him or her in your daily prayers. Sometimes when we are praying for people by name we are struck with the revelation that we might be the only ones praying for that individual.

Dinner Party Flow
Volunteers begin to arrive around 3:00pm to set up. (Set up includes tables, chairs, the coffee station, roll up cutlery, organize donations (clothes/hygiene supplies) etc.)
Upon arrival, volunteers sign in on the iPad in our meeting room. They then get a volunteer lanyard or purchase a We See You Shirt (available for purchase on Tuesday nights) so that we know & our guests know who is volunteering that evening. We have a team meeting at 4:45, which explains each job, and any announcements we have that week.
The gate opens at 5pm to guests, who are greeted with live music, beverages served table-side, appetizers, hygiene supplies, and our gourmet coffee bar.
At 5:15pm the director says a prayer for the meal & the food is served.
15-20 people prepare plates, while the rest of the Food Service Team serves the food to their assigned section (just like at a restaurant).
The Clothing Team visits tables 'taking orders' if guests are in need of clothing. If we have the item, we bring it to them. This is personal shopping at its finest!
Throughout the dinner, individual birthdays are announced on the microphone, celebrated with the band singing “Happy Birthday”, a card signed by the team, and a gift!
After everyone has been served, a cart overflowing with lavish dessert plates is pushed around so guests are able to select a plate full of sweet treats.
The Raffle Show starts at 6pm, and signifies the end of the dinner party.
Breakdown & cleanup start around 6:30pm.
